I am excited to share with you my staple grocery list; vegetables, superfoods, nuts/seeds, nut butters, proteins & more that I always have on hand and continue to buy over and over again. These are things that I can't live without that fill up my freezer, fridge, and cabinets. I personally like to keep all of these on hand so I can easily choose to eat a bit healthier and be prepared with snacks throughout the day, healthy lunches, and simple dinners. Less complicated and easier, the better for me as well as variety in my meals (good for my gut and keeps boredom away).
I also wanted to share my green smoothie (or bowl!) obsession that I have almost every single morning! It is my go to when I am feeling sluggish, my skin feels dull, or may have over done it over the weekend or the night before- it makes me feel good from the inside out.
For pretty much all of my groceries, I shop at Whole Foods, order off of Thrive Market, or stop in a few local places in my city. If I am trying out new recipes then the list will differ vary, but for the most part this is what I love:
Vegetables: [organic if possible]
Organic Whole Chicken
Gluten Free Oatmeal
Peanut Butter (peanuts & salt as ingredients)
Sunflower Seed Butter (Sunbutter)
Apple Cider Vinegar
Lots of lemons
Grain Free tortilla chips (Siete Family Foods, I love)
Paleo Crackers (Simple Mills)
Paleo Granola (Paleonola, Purely Elizabeth - just watch sugar content!)
It may seem like a lot, but many of the superfoods, butters, oils will last anywhere from 1 month to a few months! Therefore, you are only re-stocking those every once and a while, where as everything else I am replacing every 1-2 weeks! When I have these items on hand; I can quickly make smoothies in the morning, throw together lunches/dinners, and be prepared with a variety of snacks or homemade bars. Also, Thrive Market is great for saving money on things that can be slightly high in price such as the superfoods mentioned above and even oils or nut butters!
Now, here is my green smoothie (bowl):
This smoothie makes me feel like my skin is glowing, sweetened with natural sugars only, keeps me full for a few hours, and helps with my digestion (!!)
You will need:
1 - 1.5 cups almond milk (or sub any dairy free milk of choice)
Large handful(s) of frozen kale & spinach
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 frozen small banana
1 tbsp. ground flaxseeds or chia seeds
1 tbsp. spirulina
1 tsp. maca powder
large dash of cinnamon
2 tbsp. cacao powder (optional, gives it a slightly chocolate taste)
1 tsp. of Moon Dust Beauty (optional)
Nut butter of choice.
Sweetener if needed (1 date, 1/2 tbsp of honey or maple syrup)
optional add ins: peppermint extract, protein powder of choice, cacao nibs, avocado.
Blend everything together until creamy and top with paleo granola, nut butter, or bee pollen! You can't taste the greens and it is so refreshing to me, especially if you add in peppermint oil! I love this post workout or mid afternoon snack!
Hopefully this grocery list is helpful for you! You obviously do not have to follow this list exactly, but maybe take a few things with you from it and just use it as a guide, especially if you are stuck in a rut. Some weeks I spend more or less and always try to stick with name brand items if the ingredients agree with me; money saving!
Things I try to do before shopping for groceries:
1. Plan ahead of time. Pick a few meals that I want to make for the week; prepare the list! Saves me time and money in the store! Also allows me to try new foods and switch up my diet.
2. Look for sales / coupons. This always helps when you are purchasing a lot of groceries.
3. Buy things in bulk if can; paper goods, nuts/seeds, anything! If you have the storage space, in the long run it will save you more money. (This is where Amazon or Thrive will come in handy since these items are cheaper there!)
